A supporting hand

*Psalm 37:23-24, “The steps of a man are established by the Lord, and He delights in His way. When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because the Lord is the One who holds his hand.”

As I have been reading through the Psalms in my daily devotions, I have found many specific verses which have been of special encouragement, but this one in particular stuck out to me. First of all, I find it compelling that it is the Lord that determines a man’s steps and it is the Lord who delights in that way which he determined for the man. In other words, individual Christians can’t go wrong when they are pursuing the path which God has set for them! It just makes me happy to know that it definitely brings a smile to my Father’s face when I am walking faithfully on the path that He paved specifically for me. 🙂

The other thing is just simply a great encouragement. I know that my Father in heaven is always holding me by the hand, always ready to catch me when I stumble, and always faithful to pull me up when I fall. It’s during the trials in life that I can be absolutely sure that, even if I trip and collapse over my sin, I will not be hurled headlong because there is a faithful God who is waiting for me to get to my knees and ask for the help that He is more than willing to give. I like to imagine a small child skipping along the path, tripping, and yet not falling because her small hand is held securely in the strong hand of her father…. that loving father who would give his life for her if he could….
